Helping Cut Costs Associated With Hiring A New Employee

The Boundary Wage Incentive Program offers an incentive to employers who create long-term employment prospects for individuals who are facing labour market difficulties.  The program is available to EI eligible individuals who's best opportunity for returning to work is through job skills enhancement.

ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES:

To be eligible for the Boundary Wage Incentive Program the potential employee must :

  • Be presently unemployed; or under-employed
  • Have received EI in the past 3 years or Maternity / Parental Benefits in the past 5 years and be re-entering the workforce; and
  • Be facing labour market difficulties

Potential employees are required to make an appointment with a member of the Employment Services Team to determine eligibility for the program.

ELIGIBLE EMPLOYERS:

To meet the requirements of the program, the employer must be willing to:

  • Provide the employee with a minimum of 35 hours per week;
  • Provide the employee with the opportunity to gain marketable skills and;
  • Offer the employee the potential for long-term employment

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

Employers may be reimbursed on average 50% of the wages an employee receives for the duration of the contract.  A Boundary Wage Incentive contract ranges between 12 - 24 weeks in duration.  Each contract is designed and based on individual needs.
